Breast augmentation surgery uses breast implants to increase the size and shape of breasts.
Breast implants are made of medical grade silicone or saline and come in different shapes and textures depending on the desired results of the breasts.
Types of breast implants:
Round implants provide more fullness to the shape of the breasts, depending on the degrees of projection which is decided with the doctor at the consultation visit.
Teardrop implants give a more natural look and are usually used for breast reduction surgeries, or for patients who desire a more natural look of the breasts.
Breast reduction surgery is the optimal option for patients with large breasts that can cause neck and shoulder pain, or for patients with uneven breasts. The plastic surgeon will remove excess fat and tissue from the breasts. Breast reduction surgery can be accompanied with breast lift surgery, for patients with uneven or sagging areolas and breast tissues.
Depending on size and position of the areolas around the nipple, the surgeon can even out the areolas. The surgery is done in the operating room under general anaesthesia, and breast reduction surgery can be performed at any age – sometimes even in adolescence.
Breast reduction surgery is not necessarily done for cosmetic reasons, but for health reasons as very large breasts may lead to severe pain in the neck and shoulders due to the weight of the breasts on the spine and shoulders. Breast size and weight can affect the shape of the spine and cause a hump or arch in the back.

Breast lift surgery is performed when the breast loses its elasticity and shape. In many cases, the breast is flabby due to severe weight loss, frequent births, breastfeeding, aging, etc., as well as when the nipple is in a low place compared to the breast size.
A breast lift will not significantly change the size of the breast. However, breast lift can be performed in addition to breast augmentation or reduction. The method of breast lift varies depending on the following factors:
Breast lift techniques
Ribeiro lift method (the Brazilian method)
In the traditional techniques breast tissues are removed, but in the Brazilian method these sagging tissues are used as a filling, giving a natural, full shape to the breast without having to use implants.
Types of incisions used in breast lift:
The surgeon makes a donut-shaped incision (in a circular shape) around the areola and then removes the excess skin. Some folds may occur around the nipple, but they disappear within several weeks.
.
The incision is made in the shape of a lollipop and extends around the areola in a circular motion, then extends vertically from around the areola downwards. This is suitable for moderate degrees of sagging.
For women with looser breast tissues and sagging skin, this method is most effective. The surgeon makes a round incision around the areola, and line going down the breast to the crease, and one short horizontal line in the crease of the breast.
A crescentic incision is the least painful technique of making a crescent-shaped incision or excision in the upper part of the nipple, and is suitable for minor degrees of sagging.
