Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI):

Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a type of the assisted reproductive techniques, but it differs fundamentally from In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in the method of fertilizing the egg with sperm in the laboratory:

  1. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): In this technique, sperm and eggs are placed together in a suitable environment within the laboratory to allow natural fertilization. After successful fertilization occurs, the resulting embryos are transferred back into the woman’s uterus.
  2. Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI): In this technique, a laboratory specialist directly injects a single sperm into the egg using a fine needle. Following fertilization, the egg is then transferred to the uterus. This method is particularly used in cases of sperm deficiencies, such as low sperm count, poor motility, or abnormal morphology.
