Embryo Freezing Techniques:

Embryo freezing is used to preserve embryos after completing the Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) process. This involves freezing the embryos at very low temperatures using liquid nitrogen, allowing them to be stored for several years. The frozen embryos can be thawed and used later as per the couple’s wishes. Embryo freezing is a crucial step of most IVF programs.

Advantages of Embryo Freezing:

  1. Additional Opportunity for Pregnancy: This technique provides an extra chance to achieve pregnancy if the initial IVF cycle is unsuccessful, eliminating the need for the couple to undergo the entire IVF process again.
  2. Protection Before Medical Treatments: This technique is beneficial for women who are about to undergo medical treatments that may affect their fertility, such as cancer therapy. Embryos can be frozen for future use, thereby preserving the opportunity for pregnancy.
  3. Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome: Embryo freezing is also utilized in cases of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and occasionally for other medical conditions.
